Quebec Waterproof Boots FAQ
Should I go down a size?
It is fairly common for some customers, without a wide foot or high instep, to go down a size.
It is important to note that shoe sizing can vary significantly between brands and styles. Therefore, your usual shoe size may fluctuate.
If you've tried on the boots and they fit perfectly, then theoretically, the size indicated on the label shouldn't matter.
If the boots are noticeably too large, it's advisable to prioritise foot comfort and consider changing the size. While insoles and thick socks can be used to adjust for shoes that are too big, it's always preferable to find the ideal fit initially.
Some individuals prefer using additional insoles to achieve the perfect fit, especially if they have narrow feet or need orthotic arch support.
Insoles can greatly enhance fit and accommodate narrow feet. Once you've inserted your insole, ensure that the shoe fits correctly in all the right places. It's recommended to place an additional insole beneath our x-comfort insole to maintain the added comfort.
Alternatively, if you have a wide foot or a high instep, it might be essential to remove the insole to create more space to maneuver your foot around the ankle. This adjustment significantly impacts the internal volume of the boot. It's advisable to keep hold of your thick X-Comfort insoles; in most cases, when the leather stretches, they can comfortably fit back in.
When faced with a choice between sizes, particularly as the boots are crafted from soft leather, opting for the smaller size is suggested. However, it's crucial to bear in mind that boots that are too small can lead to discomfort, so trying the size up may be advisable if needed.
How do I clean my Quebec Waterproofs Boots?
- Start by cleaning the boots with fresh, clean water to remove any potential acids, salts and harmful chemicals that can harm natural leather products. Allow them to air dry in a natural environment, avoiding abrupt temperature changes or direct heat sources.
- If the lining of the boots gets wet during cleaning, it's advisable to thoroughly dry it out before using the boots again. Placing crumpled newspaper inside the boots can be an effective method.
- These boots feature removable insoles, making it convenient to ensure thorough drying.
- If the boots are used heavily in stables, beaches or around animal waste it is advisable to use a cleaning foam or spray to penetrate the leather's pores. (then allow to dry thoroughly again).
- To keep the leather nourished and supple over the footbed, we highly recommend generously applying Bareback Footwear's luxury dubbin as regularly as possible. This will help preserve the leather and replenish the natural oils/ moisture in the pores of the leather, preventing it from becoming pale as it dries out. This will also help to the restore the colour and buff our any scuffs or marks on the leather.
- At the start of your Quebec boots life to maintain the leather on the upper leg we would suggest washing as above and using a suede brush to remove any remaining mud/ dirt. You can then apply a protective spray (Carbon Pro) as is in the care kit below. After a long time of using the boots, a light coating of dubbin can be applied to the leg to replenish any lost colour/ oils and even the tone of the boots again.
You can find this premium dubbin at the following link: https://www.barebackfootwear.com/products/bareback-footwear-luxury-dubbin-100ml. or our full recommended care kit here: https://www.barebackfootwear.com/products/waxed-leather-boots-care-package

How do the Quebec Waterproof Boots fit?
The Quebec boots are known for their generous sizing. Over time, they soften and stretch, providing additional room for a wider foot or extra comfort. The insole in these boots is also removable, allowing you the flexibility to insert your own insoles or temporarily remove them for more space while the leather adapts to your unique foot shape.
If you find yourself in between two sizes, our recommendation is to typically opt for the smaller of the two sizes. The reason being that the toe box and front foot area of these boots are deep and generously designed, providing ample space for your feet.
The Quebec calf fitting is relaxed but with the buckle adjustment can be tightened in or adjusted out to allow a more tailored fit to your shape or seasonal needs. The size chart is on the product page for your reference.
