Mid Calf Boots

Most of our mid calf range is genuinely waterproof, using a Wil-Tex® membrane confirmed on the Quebec, Alaska, Polar Storm and Hudson styles. This keeps your feet dry in wet yards, muddy fields and heavy rain, not just showerproof.

The Harley Boots are the exception. They're built with a soft calf skin leather outer rather than a waterproof membrane, so they're better suited to dry, smart-casual wear rather than wet ground.

If you find most boots too tight around the calf, start with the Quebec Waterproof Boots (available in Standard and Wide Fit) or the Alaska Storm Waterproof Boots (Standard / Wide Fit), both finished with a pull-on design that's easy to get on and off. The Quebec Waterproof Zip Up is another good option if you also have a high instep or limited ankle mobility, since the Opti Zip gives you a wider opening than a standard pull-on.

The Polar Storm Waterproof Boots use a full leg lace system, so you can tighten or loosen the fit around the calf to suit you, which also makes them a good choice if your calves are slimmer. The Hudson Mid Boots use a double buckle for a similar level of adjustment in a smarter silhouette, while the Harley Boots lace through the foot and ankle for a close, tailored fit.

Mid calf boots sit roughly midway up the shin, lower than a full-length riding boot and higher than an ankle boot, which makes them ideal for everyday yard and country wear without the extra weight of a tall boot shaft.

The leg should feel snug enough that the boot doesn't gape or let water in at the top, but not so tight that it digs in when you bend your knee. If you're between fits, styles with a lace or buckle, such as the Polar Storm or Hudson, let you fine-tune the calf width, while the Quebec and Alaska pull-on styles are cut generously through the leg for an easier fit over thicker socks or jodhpurs.

The Quebec Waterproof Boots come in both Standard and Wide Fit, and the Alaska Storm Waterproof Boots suit both a standard and wide calf. If you also have a high instep or find ankle movement uncomfortable, the Quebec Waterproof Zip Up gives you a wider opening thanks to its Opti Zip.

The original Quebec Waterproof Boots are a pull-on style with a rear boot pull, while the Quebec Waterproof Zip Up adds a full-length Opti Zip, making them easier to get on if you have a wider foot, high instep or limited ankle mobility.

The Quebec Waterproof Zip-up Wool Lined Boots are our warmest option, with a full shearling lining and plush wool thermal insole on top of the waterproof membrane. The Alaska Storm and Polar Storm are close behind, both lined with genuine sheep wool.

Yes, that's exactly what this range is designed for. The waterproof styles, in particular the Quebec, Alaska, Polar Storm and Hudson, are built with anti-slip soles and durable waterproof linings for muddy fields, wet yards and daily dog walks.

Mid calf boots sit between the two: taller than an ankle boot for extra leg protection from mud and water, but shorter and lighter than a full-length riding boot. They should feel snug but not restrictive around the calf, with enough room to tuck in jodhpurs or thicker socks.

Not ideally. The Harley Boots use a soft calf skin leather lining rather than a waterproof membrane, so they're best kept for dry, smart-casual occasions. For wet yards or fields, choose one of our confirmed waterproof styles instead.
