Deck Shoes

The leather Barco (Chestnut) has a smooth, polished upper that shapes to your foot over time. Smooth leather is slightly more robust against light splashes and easier to wipe clean — a practical choice if you want a deck shoe you can wear on the water as well as off it.

The suede Barco (available in Caramel and Burnt Orange) has a softer, more tactile finish with a relaxed aesthetic. Suede is more susceptible to water marks, so keep it away from wet surfaces and treat with a suede protector spray before first wear. In terms of comfort and construction, both versions are identical.

Neither version is waterproof — they are not designed for wet conditions.

The Barco fits Standard (D) width but comes up generously. If you're between sizes, we generally recommend sizing down for the best fit, particularly if you plan to wear them without socks. The soft leather uppers will naturally shape and soften to your foot over the first few wears.

The adjustable leather lace at the front lets you fine-tune the fit around the forefoot. Tighten for a more secure feel; leave looser for easy slip-on wear.

Leather (Chestnut): Wipe off any dirt with a damp cloth and allow to dry naturally. Apply a leather conditioner or our Bareback Footwear Luxury Dubbin periodically to keep the leather supple and extend the shoe's life. Avoid prolonged exposure to water.

Suede (Caramel, Burnt Orange): Brush away dry dirt with a soft suede brush. Apply a suede protector spray before first wear and reapply periodically. Do not use leather dubbin or wax polish on suede — this will change the appearance of the upper. If the suede gets wet, allow it to dry naturally away from direct heat, then brush to restore the nap.

Deck shoes were originally designed for life on boats — the non-slip rubber sole provides reliable grip on wet decks. The Barco works equally well away from the water: it's a versatile warm-weather shoe that suits casual days out, summer events, country shows, and relaxed outdoor occasions.

The breathable interior makes them comfortable sock-free, while the cushioned leather insole supports the foot through long days on your feet. They're not a boot, so they won't replace a country or yard boot for muddy or wet conditions — but for warmer, drier days, they're a lightweight and stylish alternative.

Yes — the Barco is designed with this in mind. The breathable interior and cushioned leather insole make it comfortable for sock-free wear. The leather lining of the insole is gentle against bare skin and won't cause undue rubbing, though as with any new shoe the first few wears will involve a short breaking-in period.

Apply a suede protector spray before first wear to help repel moisture and light marks. Never use leather polish, dubbin, or wax on suede — it will alter the texture and colour of the upper permanently. Allow wet suede to dry naturally away from direct heat sources, then brush to restore the finish.
