Not every country boot needs to be waterproof, and it's worth choosing based on what you'll actually be doing in them. The Quebec, Dakota and Quebec Wool Lined boots all use a Wil-Tex® waterproof and breathable lining, so they're built for wet fields, puddles and standing water.

The Montana and Andalucia boots are not waterproof. Both use a Therma-Tex® moisture-wicking layer, which keeps feet dry from perspiration and copes with light damp, but they are not designed for prolonged exposure to standing water or heavy rain.

If you need genuine waterproofing in a wide calf fit, the Quebec Waterproof Boots and Quebec Waterproof Zip Up Ankle Boots are your best options, both available in Wide Fit with a Wil-Tex® lining. For a taller, more traditional country boot with a wide calf option, the Dakota combines waterproofing with a Duratread® outsole for extra grip on wet ground.

Cold, wet mornings call for the Quebec Wool Lined Boots, which add a shearling lining and wool thermal insole on top of the same waterproof construction.

To check whether a Wide Fit boot is right for you, wrap a tape measure around the widest part of your calf while standing, keeping the tape snug but not tight. Compare this measurement against the size guide on each product page, as calf circumference varies by style and boot height. This guidance applies to our mid-calf and long boot styles — the Quebec ankle boots are sized by foot width rather than calf.

If your measurement falls between our Standard and Wide fittings, the Andalucia Boots and Dakota Boots are worth a look, as both offer more than one calf option within the same style, and the Andalucia's lace system adds up to 3.5cm of further adjustment.

Standard Fit suits an average calf circumference, while Wide Fit is cut with extra room through the leg for a more generous fit. Boots such as the Montana and Dakota are offered in both, so you can pick the fit that matches your measurement.

The Andalucia Boots go a step further with a full leg lace system beneath the zip, giving up to 3.5cm of adjustable width. This makes them a good choice if your calf size changes from day to day, or if you're between our Standard and Wide sizing.

Most styles in this collection offer Wide Fit across their full colour range. The Quebec Waterproof Zip Up Mid Calf Boots are the exception, currently available in Standard Fit only, though their roomier last suits a high instep or wider foot.
