Not every long boot on this page is waterproof, and we'd rather tell you that upfront than have you find out in a puddle. The Vermont, Dakota, Quebec, Polar Storm and Alaska all use a Wil-Tex® waterproof membrane confirmed in their product details, making them genuine wet-weather options for the yard or a rainy hack. The Kentucky, Montana, Andalucia, Nebraska, Georgia, Graceland and Milan are not waterproof – they're built for comfort, fit and everyday durability rather than standing in wet grass all morning.

Several models here are available in a wider calf fit, including the Montana, Andalucia, Dakota and Alaska, while the Kentucky's fully adjustable lace system flexes from standard right up to wide. Lining is where these boots differ most. The Polar Storm and Alaska use genuine sheep wool for maximum warmth, the Nebraska has sheep wool through the full leg and footbed for cold winter days, and the Montana and Andalucia combine a sheepskin insole with a Therma-tex layer for warmth without the bulk. The Georgia, Graceland and Milan use a full leather lining for a smarter, more breathable everyday feel, while the Quebec uses an X-Comfort® memory foam insole for cushioned, quick slip-on comfort.

A well-fitted long boot should sit close against your calf without gaping at the top, allow you to bend your knee freely in the stirrup, and leave a thumb's width of space at the toe. No. Only boots with a confirmed waterproof membrane are described as waterproof on our product pages – these currently include the Vermont, Dakota, Quebec, Polar Storm and Alaska. Other models, like the Montana and Andalucia, use moisture-wicking linings rather than a full waterproof membrane, so they're better suited to dry or lightly damp conditions.

Both are non-waterproof, standard-to-wide fit boots with a sheepskin insole, but they're built differently. The Montana has a Duratred® moulded outsole and a full-length elasticated zip for a simple pull-on fit. The Andalucia has a rear stretch gusset and a full leg lace system giving up to 3.5cm of extra calf adjustment, making it the better choice if you need more flexibility around the calf.

Yes – boots like the Dakota, Quebec, Alaska and Polar Storm are built with country and yard use in mind, with durable waterproof linings and grippier outsoles for wet fields and muddy yards. The more riding-focused boots, such as the Georgia or Graceland, will work for a country walk too, but they're cut with the stirrup in mind rather than heavy daily yard use.
