Waterproof vs Non-Waterproof

If you're out in all weathers, our Kentucky Storm, Rocky, Idaho Storm, Chatsworth Storm and Blair Storm boots all use a Wil-Tex® waterproof membrane to keep feet dry in wet fields and washdown areas.

If you mainly ride indoors or in the summer months, the non-waterproof Idaho, Buffalo and Bramham boots use breathable leather or membrane linings that stay cooler over long days.

Best for Wet Weather and Winter Turnout

For consistently wet or muddy conditions, the Rocky Waterproof Boots pair a Wil-Tex® membrane with a Duratread® anti-slip sole for solid grip underfoot. If you need extra warmth on cold mornings, the Rocky Winter Waterproof Boots add a natural sheep wool lining and footbed on top of the same waterproof build.

Adjustable Fit and Lace-Up Styles

If your feet vary in width through the day, an adjustable lace system makes a real difference. The Kentucky Storm uses fully adjustable laces with a side zip for easy on/off once set, while the Bramham Zip Jodhpur Boots combine front lace-up speed hooks with elasticated side panels for a fit that flexes with you. The Buffalo Boots also lace directly to the foot and ankle for a tailored fit.

Lining, Comfort and Support
  • Kentucky Storm & Blair Storm – memory foam X-comfort insoles for cushioning and shock absorption
  • Idaho & Idaho Storm – removable Cambrella lined insoles with an air release valve in the heel
  • Rocky & Rocky Winter – Perlon or natural sheep wool footbeds with moisture-wicking therma-tex
  • Chatsworth Storm – gel IMPACT insole for maximum shock absorption
  • Bramham – suede cushioned removable insole, easy to clean

All styles include a moulded or arched shank for underfoot support, so you're not on your feet all day without any structure.

How Short Riding Boots Should Fit

Short riding boots should sit snugly around the ankle without pinching, with enough room to wear a normal riding sock. Lace-up styles such as the Kentucky Storm and Bramham let you fine-tune the fit around the instep, which is useful if one foot is wider than the other. If you have a high instep, note that the Chatsworth Storm is best suited to average foot shapes rather than a high instep. If you're between sizes, size up rather than down, as boots that are too tight will rub during long days in the saddle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all short riding boots in this collection waterproof?

No. The Kentucky Storm, Rocky, Rocky Winter, Idaho Storm, Chatsworth Storm and Blair Storm boots all have a confirmed Wil-Tex® waterproof membrane. The Idaho, Buffalo and Bramham boots are not waterproof and are better suited to drier, indoor or summer riding.

Which boots are best for adjustable or wider feet?

The Kentucky Storm range uses fully adjustable laces so you can set the width and instep yourself, and the Bramham Zip Jodhpur Boots add elasticated side stretch panels for extra flex around the foot.

What's the difference between the Idaho and Idaho Storm boots?

Both share the same comfortable front-zip design with a Cambrella lined insole and spur rests. The Idaho Jodhpur Boots use a breathable leather lining and are not waterproof, making them a good all-round choice for drier conditions. The Idaho Storm Waterproof Jodhpur Riding Boots add a fully waterproof WilTex® lining and a sealed front zip for wet-weather riding.

Can I wear these for yard work as well as riding?

Yes. The Rocky, Rocky Winter and Buffalo boots all use a Duratread® anti-slip outsole, which is well suited to yard chores and washdown areas as well as time in the saddle.

Do short riding boots work with half chaps?

Yes, all the boots in this collection are designed at ankle height so they sit comfortably underneath half chaps, giving you the support of a longer boot without the cost or break-in time.

Should I choose a lace-up or zip boot?

Lace-up styles like the Kentucky Storm and Buffalo give the most adjustable, tailored fit but take slightly longer to put on. Zip or combined lace-and-zip styles such as the Idaho and Bramham are quicker to get on and off, which suits busy yard mornings.
