Ankle Riding Boots

Not every ankle riding boot in this collection is waterproof, so it’s worth checking before you buy. The Kentucky Storm, Idaho Storm, Ottawa Storm, Chatsworth Storm and Blair Storm all use a Wil-Tex® or WilTex® waterproof membrane for genuine wet-weather protection. The Idaho and Bramham Zip are not waterproof — they use breathable leather linings instead, which suit drier conditions or indoor arena work where breathability matters more than weatherproofing.

If your calf shape is tricky to fit off the shelf, look at the Kentucky Storm, which uses a fully adjustable gusseted lace system so you can set the width, instep and ankle support yourself. The Idaho Storm, Chatsworth Storm and Blair Storm all use a gusseted zip for a similar adjustable feel, while the Bramham Zip combines front laces with elasticated side stretch panels for extra give.

If you prefer a simple boot without laces or adjustment, the Idaho is our easiest slip-on jodhpur boot, with a cushioned front zip and supported arched shank for long riding sessions. The Ottawa Storm is a similar standard fit but adds a fully waterproof membrane and a warm natural sheep wool lining for colder months.

For riding or yard work in poor weather, our Storm range is built for it. The Ottawa Storm is the warmest option thanks to its genuine sheep wool lining and Dual Grip outsole, ideal for wet, muddy ground. The Kentucky Storm, Idaho Storm, Chatsworth Storm and Blair Storm all use a waterproof membrane to keep feet dry, with moisture-wicking technology in the Chatsworth and Blair helping manage warmth on milder wet days.

Ankle riding boots should sit snugly around the ankle and lower calf without gaping or rubbing, with enough room at the toe to wiggle your foot. If you have a high instep, the Chatsworth may not be the best option — the Kentucky Storm or Bramham Zip, with their adjustable lacing, tend to accommodate a wider range of foot shapes. Wear the socks you’ll normally ride in when trying boots on, and check our size guide before ordering if you’re between sizes.

Yes, all the boots in this collection are designed to work equally well in the saddle and around the yard. The Ottawa Storm’s Dual Grip outsole in particular is built to excel on both riding surfaces and muddy yard ground.
