The main difference is height and construction. Long riding boots, such as the Graceland, Georgia and Montana, run up to just below the knee and give continuous leg contact against the saddle flap, which is why they're the traditional choice for dressage, showing and everyday schooling.

Jodhpur boots, like the Kentucky Storm, Idaho and Bramham, stop at the ankle and are worn with jodhpurs or with half chaps for extra leg coverage. They're quicker to get on and off and are the more practical option for yard work, hacking and everyday riding.

Several styles in this collection use a genuine waterproof membrane rather than just water-resistant leather. The Kentucky Storm, Idaho Storm, Chatsworth Storm and Blair Storm jodhpur boots all use a Wil-Tex®/WilTex® membrane, while the Vermont Storm is our only fully waterproof long riding boot.

Boots without a membrane, such as the Kentucky Long Riding Boots, are still built from good quality leather but are not designed to be worn as a wellington-style boot in standing water.

If you need more room around the calf, the Montana Riding Boots are stocked in both standard and wide calf fittings across all three colours. The Kentucky Storm and Kentucky Long Riding Boots use fully adjustable lacing instead of a fixed calf measurement, so they flex from a standard to a wider calf shape as needed.

The Bramham and Graceland both add elasticated stretch panels for a small amount of extra give without the fully adjustable lacing.

Lining varies by boot and by season. The Nebraska uses full sheep wool insulation through the leg and foot for the coldest rides, while the Montana combines a natural sheepskin insole with an integrated Therma-tex layer for warmth without the bulk.

The waterproof jodhpur boots (Kentucky Storm, Idaho Storm, Chatsworth Storm, Blair Storm) all pair their membrane with a moisture-wicking or breathable calfskin lining to stop them feeling clammy, and most models use a removable, cushioned insole so you can refresh the footbed as needed.

Long riding boots should sit close to the leg with no gaping at the top, and the sole should sit just proud of the stirrup iron so your foot doesn't slip through. Jodhpur boots should fit snugly at the ankle with enough room in the toe box to wiggle your toes, and are designed to be worn with jodhpurs tucked in or with half chaps over the top.

If you have a noticeably high instep, styles with a fixed front like the Chatsworth may feel tight; an adjustable lace-up style such as the Kentucky Storm will usually give a better fit. Always check our size guide before ordering, as fit varies between models.

Both are fully waterproof, but the Kentucky Storm uses adjustable front lacing for a fit you can tailor from standard to wide, while the Idaho Storm is a fixed front-zip style with a more streamlined, rounded toe. Choose the Kentucky Storm if you need adjustability, or the Idaho Storm for a neater, easy on-off fit.

Yes, that's the traditional pairing. Our Kentucky Half-Chaps are designed to fit our Kentucky jodhpur boots specifically, while the Vaqueros Premium Half-Chaps fit most of our other short riding boots but are not compatible with the Kentucky range.

They're built and fitted specifically for riding, so the fit through the ankle and calf is closer than a general country boot. Waterproof styles like the Kentucky Storm and Vermont Storm cope fine with wet yards and short walks, but if you mainly need an everyday country or walking boot, our wider walking-focused ranges may suit you better.
