Most of this range is genuinely waterproof, using a Wil-Tex (or W-Tex) breathable membrane built through the boot. That includes the Idaho Storm, Kentucky Storm, Chatsworth, Blair, Vancouver Storm, Rocky, Ottawa Storm, Malvern, Denver and every Quebec style.

A few are made for drier conditions and use a breathable rather than waterproof lining: the standard Idaho Jodhpur, the Bronx and Buffalo, the Brooklyn desert boot and the Detroit work boots. They are comfortable and hard-wearing, but we would not recommend them for standing water or a soaked yard. If wet weather is your main concern, start with the Storm and Quebec styles.

For the coldest months, the Rocky Winter, the Quebec Wool Lined and the Ottawa Storm are all lined with natural sheep wool or shearling for extra warmth on top of their waterproof membrane.

If you want waterproof protection without the heavy lining, the Vancouver Storm and Rocky pair a Wil-Tex membrane with a hard-wearing Duratread outsole for grip on wet, muddy ground. The Quebec Waterproof Ankle Boots are the easiest to pull on when you are dashing out in the rain.

Our jodhpur boots are designed for the saddle and the yard. The Kentucky Storm and Blair use an adjustable lace system so you can fine-tune width, instep and ankle support, while the Idaho Storm and Chatsworth use a cushioned side zip for quick on and off. All four are fully waterproof and have spur rests or a moulded shank for support.

For a lighter, drier-weather jodhpur, the standard Idaho Jodhpur boot keeps the same comfortable shape with a breathable leather lining. The Ottawa Storm and Malvern also work well as dual-purpose yard and riding boots thanks to their Dual Grip outsole.

The Detroit Steel Toe Cap Work Boots have a reinforced steel toe cap, a breathable lining and a removable X-Comfort memory foam insole with arch support, all on a hard-wearing Duratread non-slip sole. They come in black and brown for demanding, all-day wear.

Please note the Detroit boots use a breathable lining rather than a waterproof membrane, so for very wet conditions a Storm or Quebec style is the better choice.

• Memory foam insoles - the Kentucky Storm, Blair and every Quebec style use a removable X-Comfort memory foam insole for cushioning and shock absorption.
• Wool linings - the Rocky Winter, Quebec Wool Lined and Ottawa Storm add natural sheep wool or shearling for warmth.
• Moisture-wicking layers - the Rocky and Denver use a therma-tex Perlon footbed to help draw moisture away.
• Arch support - almost every boot here has an integrated moulded shank to support the arch and reduce fatigue over a long day.

Ankle boots should feel snug around the heel and instep without pinching across the toes. If you have a higher instep or a wider foot, the Quebec Zip Up and Wool Lined styles are cut generously and open with a full-length zip, which makes them easier to get on.

The lace-up jodhpurs (Kentucky Storm and Blair) let you adjust the fit yourself, so they suit a range of foot shapes. If you plan to wear thick socks in winter, we would suggest allowing a little extra room. If you are between sizes or unsure, get in touch and we will be glad to help.

The Quebec Waterproof Zip Up Ankle Boots and Quebec Wool Lined boots are cut for a wider foot and higher instep, and the full-length zip makes them easy to get on. The Quebec Waterproof Ankle Boots are also available in a wide fit. The adjustable lace-up jodhpurs, Kentucky Storm and Blair, can be opened out to suit a broader foot too.

For real warmth, choose one of the wool-lined styles: the Rocky Winter Waterproof, the Quebec Wool Lined or the Ottawa Storm, all of which combine natural sheep wool or shearling with a waterproof membrane. They keep feet warm and dry through cold, wet days.

Both are fully waterproof lace-up jodhpur boots with an adjustable fit and a moulded shank. The main difference is the insole and finish: the Kentucky Storm uses an X-comfort moulded memory foam insole and comes in the widest choice of colours, including polished black, brown and navy. The Blair uses an X-comfort insole in a buffed waxed calfskin with contrast stitching, available in brown and blue.

Yes. The Vancouver Storm, Rocky and Malvern are ideal for walking, with a waterproof membrane and a grippy Duratread or Dual Grip outsole for muddy, uneven ground. For a smarter boot that still handles the outdoors, the Denver Chelsea boot is a good all-rounder.

Our mens ankle boots run through the usual UK men's sizes, with many styles available up to a UK 12 - something men often struggle to find in quality riding and country boots. If a particular size is showing as low or out of stock, get in touch and we will let you know when it is due back.
