Made to Measure Riding Boots

When you place a made-to-measure order, you'll select your standard EU/UK foot size at checkout and then submit your calf measurements using the diagram provided. Bareback's Portuguese factory produces the boot leg to those exact dimensions — height, circumference at the top of the calf, and any additional measurements required for the specific style.

A few things to know before ordering:

• Measure in centimetres using a soft tape measure
• Wear the same leg wear you intend to use with the boots (breeches or jodhpurs)
• Allow for a small drop in height — the boot will sit slightly lower after the first few wears as the leather softens
• If in doubt about any measurement, contact the Bareback team before placing your order
• Made-to-measure boots are non-refundable once the order is placed and measurements confirmed

Made to measure is worth considering if you have consistently found that off-the-shelf boots fit your foot but the leg is either too narrow, too wide, or not the right height. Standard fit covers most average calf widths; wide fit adds extra room for broader legs or riders who wear breeches with extra bulk. If your measurements fall outside either range, or if one leg is noticeably different from the other, made to measure removes the compromise.

You do not necessarily need made to measure just because you prefer a snug fit — the correct size in the standard range often achieves this. If you are borderline between standard and wide, the Andalucia's adjustable rear lace may also be worth considering before committing to a full made-to-measure order.

Made-to-measure boots take 6–9 weeks from when your order and measurements are confirmed. This can increase during busy periods — Christmas, bank holidays, and Portuguese factory holidays in particular. If you need the boots by a specific date (a show, holiday, or event), order well in advance and contact the team to check current lead times.

Delivery after manufacture is to a UK address. As the boots are produced to your specifications, they cannot be returned if the measurements you provide are incorrect — so it is worth taking the time to measure carefully before submitting.

The Andalucia stands apart from the other made-to-measure styles because it is also available in a standard and wide fit — and in all three versions, it includes an adjustable rear lace that provides up to 3.5cm of additional calf width. This means the Andalucia gives you fine-tuning after the boots arrive, which other styles do not.

For riders who fall between standard and wide, the adjustable Andalucia is often a better starting point than a full made-to-measure order — lower cost, shorter lead time, and the lace can usually compensate. The MTM Andalucia combines both: a leg made to your dimensions plus the adjustable lace on top of that.

The Andalucia is also one of only two styles in the made-to-measure range available for men, alongside the Georgia.

Calfskin leather (Andalucia, Georgia, Graceland): durable, moulds to the leg with wear, suits everyday riding and country use. Takes polish and improves with care.

Suede (Sovereign Suede): a softer, brushed finish with the widest colour range in the MTM collection (Black, Brown, Blue, Grey, Sand). Better suited to smart occasions and drier conditions — suede requires more careful maintenance and does not weather wet conditions as well as smooth leather.

Waxed leather (Sovereign Waxed): a harder-wearing finish with natural weather resistance. The wax gives a slightly distressed, characterful look that suits country and equestrian use. Requires periodic re-waxing to maintain the finish.

Waterproof: the Hudson Storm Waterproof is the only confirmed waterproof style in the made-to-measure range.
