Your foot should sit snugly in the boot with no slipping at the heel, and there should be enough room at the toe to wiggle your toes freely. For jodhpur boots, the ankle collar should sit comfortably without rubbing when you flex your foot in the stirrup. For long boots, check the calf fit sitting down as well as standing, since your calf shape changes slightly in the saddle — this is where a wide-fit option such as the Montana can help. If you're between sizes, sizing down slightly is usually preferable for boots with a stretch panel or elasticated gusset, as these will give a little with wear.
