Sheepskin & Wool Boots Buying Guide

Bareback Footwear's sheepskin and wool boots use genuine natural fibres to keep feet warm, dry and comfortable when the temperature drops. Wool wicks moisture and insulates naturally, so these boots stay cosy without overheating. Here is how the range compares, followed by a buying guide and answers to the questions we are asked most.

Sheepskin and wool: why natural linings?
Genuine sheepskin and wool are natural insulators that trap warmth while wicking moisture away, so feet stay warm but not sweaty. Every boot in this collection uses real sheep wool or sheepskin in the footbed, ankle or full leg for cosy, breathable comfort you do not get from synthetic linings alone.
Which are waterproof?
The Polar Storm, Rocky Winter and Ottawa Storm are fully waterproof, each using a Wil-Tex membrane. The Montana, Nebraska and Andalucia are warm, breathable boots with moisture-wicking linings, but they are not waterproof. Choose a Storm style if you need to keep the wet out.
Calf fit and adjustable sizing
The Montana comes in both standard and wide-calf fittings with a full-length zip. The Andalucia features a full-leg lace system that adjusts the calf by up to 3.5cm, plus a rear stretch gusset, making it ideal for harder-to-fit calves. The Nebraska uses a hidden rear elastic spine for flexible comfort.
Warmth for winter riding
For the coldest days, the Nebraska and Polar Storm offer full-leg wool insulation, while the Montana lines the foot and heel in natural sheepskin. Short styles like the Rocky and Ottawa keep the foot and ankle warm for time on the yard.
Caring for wool-lined leather boots
Wipe off mud and dry naturally, away from radiators and direct heat which can dry out leather and matt the wool. Feed the leather with a suitable cream or dubbin, and air the boots between wears. Removable wool insoles can be taken out to freshen up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are sheepskin and wool boots waterproof?
Not all of them. The Polar Storm, Rocky Winter and Ottawa Storm use a Wil-Tex waterproof membrane. The Montana, Nebraska and Andalucia are warm and breathable but not waterproof.
Is the wool real?
Yes. These boots use genuine natural sheepskin and sheep wool in the footbed, ankle or full leg, depending on the style, for natural warmth and moisture-wicking comfort.
Do you offer wide-calf fittings?
Yes. The Montana is available in standard and wide calf, and the Andalucia's lace system adjusts the calf by up to 3.5cm, so there are options for a range of calf widths.
Will they be too warm for milder days?
Wool naturally regulates temperature and wicks moisture, so it stays comfortable across a range of conditions. That said, these are designed as winter and cold-weather boots and are best suited to cooler days.
Can I add a wool insole to other boots?
Yes. We offer natural sheepskin and wool-lined insoles that can be added to any of your boots or shoes for extra warmth in the colder months.
How do I care for the wool lining?
Air the boots between wears and dry them naturally, away from direct heat. Removable wool insoles can be taken out to freshen, and the leather uppers should be cleaned and conditioned as normal.
