Waterproof Jodhpur Boots Buying Guide

Four waterproof jodhpur boot styles, all carrying a Wil-Tex membrane for 360° weather protection — the choice comes down to entry method, fit flexibility, outsole, and colour. Every style is made from leather or waxed calfskin and is available in men’s and women’s sizing.

Kentucky Storm vs Idaho Storm: Which to Choose?

Both are fully waterproof jodhpur boots with a Wil-Tex membrane, but they differ in entry method, fit system, and finish.

The Kentucky Storm uses a side zip to slip the boot on after setting the laces. The lace system allows you to adjust the width, instep fit, and level of ankle support independently — useful if you have a narrower or wider instep than average, or if you want a firm locked-in feel. It comes in five colours. The insole uses X-Comfort memory foam technology.

The Idaho Storm has a front-facing YKK zip for quick on and off. It includes double spur rests on both sides, making it the better choice for active riding. The outer is full-grain supersoft calfskin, the insole is Cambrella-lined and removable, and an air release valve in the heel absorbs shock. Available in Black, Brown, and Navy.

In short: Kentucky Storm for adjustable fit and colour choice; Idaho Storm for riding with spurs and a calfskin finish.

Blair Storm vs Chatsworth Storm: What's the Difference?

Both the Blair Storm and Chatsworth Storm are waterproof jodhpur boots in buffed waxed calfskin with contrast colour stitching, and both are available in Brown and Blue.

The Blair Storm uses a side zip plus an adjustable lace entry system, and carries an X-Comfort memory foam insole. This gives a more customisable fit around the ankle and instep.

The Chatsworth Storm uses a simple side zip without an adjustable lace, and features a gel IMPACT insole for enhanced shock absorption. One important note: the Chatsworth is not ideal if you have a high instep — the zip-only entry can make it difficult to get on and off comfortably. If you have a high instep, the Kentucky Storm or Blair Storm (both with lace adjustment) are better suited.

How Does the Wil-Tex Waterproof Membrane Work?

All four styles use a Wil-Tex (or WilTex®) membrane — a waterproof and breathable lining built into the boot that sits between the leather outer and the inner lining. It prevents water from entering through the body of the boot while still allowing moisture vapour (sweat) to escape outward. The Idaho Storm also seals the zip itself, giving waterproof protection even through the zip entry point.

To maintain performance, treat the leather outer periodically with a suitable leather conditioner or waterproofing spray. The membrane does the work, but the leather outer still benefits from care to keep it supple and weatherproof on the surface.

Are These Boots Suitable for Horse Riding?

Yes — all four styles are jodhpur-height boots designed with riding in mind. The Idaho Storm includes double spur rests on both sides, making it the best choice for riders who wear spurs regularly. The Kentucky Storm's adjustable lace allows a firm ankle fit that reduces movement in the stirrup. The Blair Storm and Chatsworth Storm are also suited to light riding, though neither includes spur rests.

For riders who need a long boot rather than a jodhpur height, see the long riding boots collection or the waterproof boots collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all the boots in this collection waterproof?

Yes. Every style in this collection carries a Wil-Tex or WilTex® waterproof membrane. The Idaho Storm also seals the zip for additional protection. All are designed for use in wet conditions including rain, puddles, and wet grass.

Which waterproof jodhpur boot has the most colour options?

The Kentucky Storm has the widest colour range, available in Polished Black, Polished Brown, Polished Navy, Forest, and Mocha — five colourways. The Idaho Storm comes in Black, Brown, and Navy. The Blair Storm and Chatsworth Storm are each available in Brown and Blue.

Which boot is best for high instep?

If you have a high instep, avoid the Chatsworth Storm — its zip-only entry can be difficult to get on with a fuller instep. The Kentucky Storm and Blair Storm both have an adjustable lace system that allows you to open the boot wider before zipping up, accommodating a higher instep more comfortably. The Idaho Storm's front YKK zip also provides a wider opening than a standard side zip.

Do any waterproof jodhpur boots have spur rests?

Yes — the Idaho Storm has double spur rests on both sides of the boot, designed for riders who wear spurs. The Kentucky Storm, Blair Storm, and Chatsworth Storm do not have spur rests.

How should waterproof jodhpur boots fit?

The boot should fit snugly around the ankle with a firm (not tight) feel across the instep. Allow around 1cm of space at the toe. The Kentucky Storm and Blair Storm allow you to adjust the lace after putting the boot on, which helps fine-tune the fit around the ankle and instep. The Chatsworth and Idaho Storm are fixed-zip entry — the fit is set at the time of purchase, so size carefully. Leather will soften and mould with wear, so a slightly firm fit from new is normal.
