Waterproof vs Non-Waterproof Blue Boots

Not every blue boot in this collection is waterproof, so it's worth checking before you buy if wet weather is a factor. The Dakota, Chatsworth, Blair and Chicago all use a genuine waterproof membrane and are confirmed fully waterproof. The Montana and Milan use moisture-wicking linings rather than a waterproof membrane, so they're better suited to dry yard work and everyday riding rather than standing out in the rain. Our full range of waterproof styles across all colours can be browsed in the Waterproof Boots collection.

Best Blue Boots for Wide Calves

If you need extra room through the calf, the Dakota and Montana are both offered in a Wide Fit alongside their Standard Fit. The Chatsworth, Blair and Quebec use an adjustable gusset or buckle instead of fixed fitting, which can also help if your calf shape varies from foot to top.

Best Blue Boots for Riding and Wet Yard Work

For time in the saddle, the Montana is our long riding boot built for regular use, with a Duratread® sole for grip both mounted and on foot. If you need waterproofing for muddy yards and wet mornings, the Chatsworth and Blair jodhpur boots are fully waterproof and pair well with half chaps. The Polar adds genuine sheepskin lining for extra warmth on the coldest days.

Lining, Comfort and Support
  • Sheepskin insoles – found in the Montana and Polar, ideal for warmth in colder months
  • Gel and memory foam insoles – used in the Dakota, Chatsworth, Blair and Milan for shock absorption underfoot
  • Full leather lining – found in the Sovereign and Milan for a softer, more breathable feel next to skin
  • Moulded shanks – built into the Dakota, Chatsworth and Blair for arch support during longer days
How Your Blue Boots Should Fit

Ankle and short boots such as the Toddy, Sovereign and Monroe should sit snugly around the ankle without pinching. For long riding boots like the Montana and Milan, there should be enough room to bend the knee comfortably in the saddle, with the calf fitting close but not tight – if you're between fits, our Wide Fit options give extra room through the calf. Jodhpur boots such as the Chatsworth, Blair and Quebec use an adjustable zip, gusset or buckle, so a snugger fit around the ankle is normal and expected. We'd always recommend wearing the socks you'll actually ride or walk in when trying boots on.

Factory Seconds and Outlet Blue Boots

Some of our blue boots, including the Quebec and Polar, are only available in this colour as factory seconds – meaning they didn't quite meet our usual cosmetic standard, most often due to slight creasing in the leather from being tried on. Each listing states the specific fault and is priced accordingly, but the construction, waterproofing and comfort features are exactly the same as full-price stock. These are single-size, one-off pairs, so once a size sells out it won't be restocked in blue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all the blue boots waterproof?

No. The Dakota, Chatsworth, Blair, Chicago, Quebec and Polar are all confirmed fully waterproof with a genuine waterproof membrane. The Montana, Milan, Toddy, Sovereign and Monroe are not waterproof, so they're better suited to dry conditions or occasional light wear.

Which blue boots have a wide calf fit?

The Dakota and Montana are both available in Standard and Wide Fit. Our jodhpur styles use an adjustable zip or gusset rather than a fixed wide fitting, which can suit a range of calf shapes.

What's the difference between the Chatsworth and Blair jodhpur boots?

Both are fully waterproof jodhpur boots with an adjustable gusseted zip and waxed calfskin upper. The main difference is the insole – the Chatsworth uses a gel IMPACT insole for shock absorption, while the Blair uses a memory foam X Comfort insole for a softer, more cushioned underfoot feel.

What's the difference between the Montana and Milan long boots?

The Montana is our everyday long riding boot with a Duratread® sole and sheepskin insole, available in Standard and Wide Fit. The Milan is a dressage-cut boot with a full leather lining and Vibram® sole, currently at a clearance price. Neither is waterproof.

Can I wear blue riding boots for everyday country walks?

Yes. The Montana, Chatsworth and Blair all have grippy soles and supportive linings that work just as well for country walks and yard chores as they do for riding, particularly the waterproof jodhpur styles in wet conditions.

Are the factory second blue boots as good quality as full-price pairs?

Yes – factory seconds like the Quebec and Polar are made to the same standard, with the same waterproofing and comfort features. They're reduced in price purely for a cosmetic issue such as slight creasing, which is always described and photographed on the product page.

Do you have blue boots for children?

Yes, the Toddy Children's Short Boot is available in blue with a soft nubuck leather upper and a non-slip rubber sole, designed to match our adult Toddy short boot.
