Four of this season's new styles are genuinely waterproof, confirmed by a sealed membrane rather than just a water-resistant leather: the Idaho Storm Waterproof Jodhpur Riding Boots and Kentucky Storm Waterproof Boots both use a Wil-Tex® membrane, while the Quebec Waterproof Zip Up Ankle Boots and Quebec Waterproof Ankle Boots use STORMPROOF WIL-TEX® lining. Everything else in this arrival — the Detroit Work Boots, Bramham Zip Jodhpur Boots, Toddy Short Boot, Franklin Chelsea Boots, Dixie Cowboy Boots and Barco Deck Shoe — is built with breathable leather or fabric linings rather than a waterproof membrane, so they're better suited to dry days, the school run or smart-casual wear. If standard-width boots pinch across the top of your foot, the Quebec Waterproof Zip Up Ankle Boots and Quebec Waterproof Ankle Boots are both cut to a Wide Fit and are designed with a high instep and limited ankle mobility in mind. The zip-up version gives a more secure, adjustable close, while the slip-on version is quicker to get on and off with its elasticated ankle.

For muddy mornings and wet yards, reach for the Idaho Storm or Kentucky Storm Waterproof Boots — both are fully sealed with a Wil-Tex® membrane and finished with a moulded or arched shank sole for support underfoot. If you need a lighter ankle boot rather than a full jodhpur boot, the Quebec Waterproof Zip Up or slip-on Quebec Waterproof Ankle Boots use the same STORMPROOF WIL-TEX® lining in a shorter cut. The Detroit Steel Toe Cap Work Boots are tough and hard-wearing with a Duratread™ non-slip sole, but are not confirmed waterproof, so they're better for damp rather than saturated ground.

• Idaho Storm: Cambrella lined removable insole with a cushioned upper foot bed to prevent rubbing on long days.
• Kentucky Storm: Padded ankle and collar plus a removable X-Comfort® moulded insole with memory foam technology.
• Quebec (both styles): X-Comfort® memory foam insole with a gel heel insert for shock absorption.
• Detroit: Breathable lining with a removable X-Comfort® insole and gel cushioned heel inserts.
• Bramham: Leather lined throughout with a removable suede cushioned insole.
• Franklin, Dixie, Toddy and Barco: Soft leather or fabric linings prioritising breathability and day-to-day comfort over weatherproofing.

Jodhpur and ankle boots such as the Idaho Storm, Kentucky Storm and Bramham should sit snugly around the ankle with the zip or laces adjusted so there's no heel slip when walking. If you carry more through the calf or have a high instep, the Wide Fit Quebec styles or the adjustable lace fastening on the Kentucky Storm will give you more room to play with. Chelsea and cowboy styles like the Franklin and Dixie are true to size in a standard fit — if you're between sizes, size up rather than down. The Quebec Waterproof Zip Up Ankle Boots and Quebec Waterproof Ankle Boots are both cut to a Wide Fit and designed with a higher instep in mind. The Kentucky Storm's adjustable lace fastening also gives extra room to tailor the fit.

Both share the same STORMPROOF WIL-TEX® waterproof lining, X-Comfort® memory foam insole and Wide Fit last. The Zip Up version fastens with a premium Opti Zip for a more secure, adjustable close, while the standard Quebec Waterproof Ankle Boots slip on with an elasticated ankle and rear pull tab for faster on-off wear.

Not confirmed. The Detroit Steel Toe Cap Work Boots are built with a breathable lining and a hard-wearing Duratread™ non-slip sole for protection and grip, but they don't feature a waterproof membrane, so we'd recommend them for damp rather than very wet conditions.

Yes — they're designed for it. The soft suede or leather uppers and cushioned leather insole are breathable enough for sock-free wear. Fit-wise the Barco comes up generously, so if you're between sizes we'd recommend sizing down. Protect suede colourways with a suede spray before first wear.

Jodhpur boots such as the Idaho Storm, Kentucky Storm and Bramham should sit snugly at the ankle without gaping, with enough room to wear thicker socks in winter if needed. If you have a wider ankle or higher instep, look for adjustable laces or zips like those on the Kentucky Storm rather than a fixed elastic panel.
