Most of our best-selling jodhpur and short boots use a genuine Wil-Tex or WilTex® waterproof membrane, confirmed in the Blair, Chatsworth, Chicago, Idaho, Kentucky and Ottawa ranges. These are the boots to reach for on wet mornings, muddy fields and long days at the yard.

The Andalucia, Harley and Montana boots are not waterproof. They use moisture-wicking Therma-Tex linings and breathable leathers instead, which suit drier conditions, indoor arenas or everyday wear where full waterproofing isn't a priority.

The Andalucia Boots and Montana Riding Boots are both offered in Standard and Wide calf fittings, with the Andalucia's full-leg lace system giving up to 3.5cm of adjustable width on top of that. Several of our waterproof jodhpur styles, including the Blair, Chatsworth and Kentucky, also use an adjustable gusseted lace or zip system so you can fine-tune the fit around a fuller calf even though they aren't sold in a named "wide" fitting.

The Blair, Chatsworth, Idaho and Kentucky Storm boots are jodhpur boots — ankle-height styles designed to be worn under jodhpurs with a stirrup, or on their own with jeans. The Montana Riding Boots are full-length riding boots, built for saddle contact and everyday yard work. The Harley, Chicago and Ottawa boots are short, ankle-height boots better suited to everyday wear around the yard or out and about rather than riding itself.

Jodhpur and short boots should sit snugly around the ankle with no heel slip, and the calf lace or zip fastening should close comfortably without pulling. If you're between calf widths, look for a Wide fitting or an adjustable lace system such as the Andalucia, Blair, Chatsworth or Kentucky. Full-length riding boots like the Montana should have around a finger's width of space at the top of the calf when standing, and enough length in the foot to wear a normal riding sock without your toes touching the end.

The Andalucia Boots and Montana Riding Boots are both available in Standard and Wide calf fittings. If you'd prefer an adjustable lace or zip system instead, the Blair, Chatsworth and Kentucky Storm boots all offer this.

All four use a genuine waterproof membrane, but the details differ. The Blair has a soft gusseted lace system, while the Chatsworth uses a gusseted zip with a gel IMPACT insole and is best avoided if you have a high instep. The Idaho has a modern rounded toe with a front cushioned zip and double side spur rests. The Kentucky Storm range offers the widest choice of colours, including polished finishes, with a padded ankle collar and adjustable laces.

The Ottawa Storm Waterproof Short Boots are our warmest option, with a genuine sheep wool lined footbed and ankle alongside a waterproof membrane. The Andalucia and Montana boots also use natural sheepskin insoles for extra warmth underfoot.

Yes. The Harley, Chicago and Ottawa boots in particular are designed as everyday short boots and work equally well for the yard, dog walking or daily wear. The jodhpur styles are also popular off the yard, especially in the neutral colours.
